The gay community is striking back. Remember the argument that ‘Homosexuality is not African’? Well, gay scholars (ahem, ahem) are coming out to attack this fallacy.
Its false. Of course. But for some reason, it is one of those popular falsehoods. Taken as 'truths', like being gay is 'un-natural'

But, and this is interesting, gay scholars are coming up with the counter argument that, actually, our people were pretty gay friendly… [Imagine being in Kabaka Mwanga’s court], that is, until the coming of the colonialists. So, what the colonialists actually brought, was homophobia!

I totally agree about homosexuality being more or less accepted in may traditional African societies. A friend of mine dod a study on this and found that not less than 100 communities in Africa had gay persons...usually quite respected and with societal roles.
Then the colonialists came with their Victorian era ideas of morality and biblical texts and it all went down hill from there.
Its a pity that this history is often distorted and many Africans don't even know about it!
